The Local Government Code of the Philippines, also known as Republic Act No. 7160, was enacted in 1991. It serves as a comprehensive legal framework for local governance, outlining the powers, responsibilities, and functions of local government units (LGUs). The Code aims to provide for genuine and meaningful local autonomy, ensuring that local governments are able to effectively meet the needs of their communities while contributing to national development goals. This study note provides an overview of key terms and definitions found within the Code to facilitate a deeper understanding of its provisions.
